Nendran Banana also known as Kerala Banana is widely used for making chips. Its a 10 month crop. Bananas are long in size and easy to grow in terrace garden or backyard. We deliver fresh suckers at your doorstep.

Planting:

  • Planting can be done between May and June or between September and October.
  • You can plant suckers from a mature plant or tissue culture plants.
  • Suckers should be disease-free and 3-4 months old.
  • Prepare pits that are 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm and fill them with topsoil and well- decomposed organic matter like compost or manure (15-20 kg per pit).
  • Plant the suckers upright in the center of the pits, ensuring the pseudostem is about 5 cm above the soil level.
  • Firm the soil around the base of the plant to eliminate air pockets.
  • Water the plants lightly after planting and provide partial shade for the first few days.

Spacing:

  • The traditional planting method involves a spacing of 2 m x 2 m (2500 plants/ha).
  • High-density planting with a spacing of 2 m x 3 m for Nendran (2000 plants/acre) can be used to achieve higher yields.

 

Care and Maintenance:

  • Irrigation: Water the plants regularly, especially during dry periods. Aim to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season, following the recommended dosage based on soil testing.

 

Harvesting:

  • Nendran bananas are harvested green, typically 8-9 months after planting.
